The necessity to orient Indonesia's Development to be based on marine resources is established on: 1) Indonesia's vast marine resources, 2) possession of high competitiveness in the field of oceanography, and 3) marine and fishery industries that are strongly related to other industries. This orientation is in accordance to the strategic development policy made by the Minister of Research and Technology in placing marine development as one of the priority programs. “Indonesian Ocean Observing System: INAGOOS”. The book is one of the products resulted from the INDOO project, where BPPT in cooperation with the Agency for Marine and Fishery Research of the Department of Marine and Fisheries Affairs (BRKP- DKP), European Space Agency (ESA-ESRIN), Agency for New Technology, Energy, and the Environment (ENEA), and Foundation IMC International Marine Center ONLUS (IMC) of Italy with the funding support from the European Union.
