Trial Implementation of a Community-based Coastal Watch Programme in Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia
The coastal watch programme was developed in three stage; consultation and problem analysis throughout Southeast Sulawesi in 1998, community extension on the bomb fishing problem in 1999, and training and trial implementation of the coastal watch programmer in one village, starting in March, 2000. This repost describes the experience with community consultations in Southeast Sulawesi, problem definition, extension activities related to the bomb fishing problem, and the trial implementation of a community-based coastal watch programme north of Kendari. The report aslo describes specific management recommendations to address the cyanide fishing problem, which is also prevalent in Southeast Sulawesi.
