Selected Indonesian Fisheries Subsidies: Quantitative and Qualitative Assessment of Policy Coherence and Effectiveness

Indonesia is blessed with many rich and prolific fisheries-fisheries that provide livelihoods to nearly 5.5 million Indonesians and are primary source of dietary protein for more than half of the nation's 225 million people. This report is based primarily on two sets of data collected by our research team from July 2007 to February 2008. The first set consists of budgetary information received from MMAF and from a small number of provincial and district level authorities. Much of this information is being made public for the first time. The authors wish to acknowledge and thank MMAF and local authorities for their remarkable openness and cooperation throughout this study.
