The Use of Standard Returnable Fish Containers in ASEAN Countries
This study was commissioned by the ASEAN Permanent Sub-Committee on Food Handling and conducted under the auspices of the ASEAN-Australias Economic Co-Operation Program. The economic viability of using HD polyethylene returnable containers largely depends on achieving a service life well in excess of traditional containers. This is principally an organisational and management problem of limiting container losses which, is most established systems, result principally from damage, pilferage or carelessness. The more complex and fragmented the distribution and marketing system, the less likely that a returnable container system would be success full because of control difficulties.
