Coastal Resources Management Project II-2000 Results
Coastal areas are the primary habitat for humanity. More than half the world's people live in coastal areas on less than 10 percent of non polar land. This land and water base supports a significant majority of human economic activity. It also provides the critical habitat for much of the world's biodiversity. Environmentally healthy coastal land, water and resources contribute to poverty alleviation, food security, and the economic growth of developing nations.
