Willem Ment den Heijer 'Ou Je Roer Recht'
The time-honored phrase "Ou rudder right" is fishery jargon and means "Stay on course and do not be fooled too much". In this book, Den Heijer describes the development of cutter fishing since 1960. The reader gets an impression of the fleet size in the years that the first barge cutters came into service, from Breskens to Delfzijl. The increase in scale in the seventies and eighties is amply discussed. Furthermore, photographs of people on board and those involved reinforce the personal character of the book. They provide a bond with a period that is still reasonably fresh in the memory of most, but that is actually history again. In the fishery literature, the cutter sector has so far been blown away. This book changes that.
