FAO Strategy for Partnerships with Civil Society Organization
The Strategy identifies six areas of collaboration and two levels of interaction with different rationales and modus operandi: global-headquarters and decentralized (regional, national, local). The main focus of this Strategy is in working with civil society at th e decentralized level. In its Reviewed Strategic Framework, FAO has defined five Strategic Objectives to eradicate poverty and food insecurity. To achieve this, the Organization is seeking to expand its collaboration with CSOs committed to these objectives. This Strategy promotes that the views of small farmers, fishers, women, youth and others are brought to the policy, normative and technical discussions convened by FAO. In this regard, where provided for by a decision of the Member States, relevant civil society networks may be invited as observers by FAO to meetings of the Technical Committees (e.g. COFI, COFO, COAG) or Governing Bodies - in coordination with the Chairpersons and Secretariat of said bodies. To ensure that partnerships will not compromise FAO’s neutrality and impartiality, this Strategy foresees a risk assessment process and a monitoring and evaluation system to measure the outcomes and impact of collaboration.
