Abstract/Notes | Nusantara was triumphant during the Srivijayan and Majapahit periods. For hundreds of years, both empires succeeded in guarding and utilizing the sea as a means for cultural creation, and to intensify social and trade cooperation in order to improve the people’s welfare. Yet, in between 18th and 19th centuries, the glory of Nusantara maritime traditions faded away. Then, entering 20th century, our seas had been under the control of other countries for years. Indonesia’s marine wealth was depleted, many foreign fishing vessels had been illegally fishing in Indonesia’s waters. In this book, the efforts to overcome the complex issues of Indonesia’s seas are shown. Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries have translated the efforts by developing three pillars: sovereignity, sustainability, and prosperity. Presenting the journey of those projects, this book has the answers for many questions about challenges to reform the marine and fisheries sector. |
