Abstract/Notes | This study contributes to the FAO and the Blue Growth Initiative’s aims to provide empirical insights into women’s empowerment in and through aquaculture. Such insights, in particular qualitative insights, are necessary to scope and map key issues, and thus suggest direction for policy and intervention strategies within the rapidly growing aquaculture sector. This study is one of two country case studies on women’s empowerment in aquaculture conducted for this purpose. The other is a comparable case study in Bangladesh. Together, these two studies form the FAO-WorldFish initiative entitled Women’s empowerment in aquaculture production systems in Asia: Comparative case studies and synthesis from Bangladesh and Indonesia. |
