Abstract/Notes The purse seine is one of the most advanced types of fishing gear for surrounding fish schools used for catching pelagic fish species such as sardine, anchovy, mackerel, hard-tail scad, bonito and skipjack. Purse seine originated from beach seines and were developed to catch fish schools in deeper water. The shaped of the net has evolved both in its features and size.
