Abstract/Notes | The time is appropriate for a book such as Australian Fisheries Resources. The demand for an accessible and detailed description of Australia’s major fisheries resources is greater than ever before and rising. There are major changes occurring in Australia and overseas in both fisheries and environmental science and management. An example of this is the increasing internasional interest in developing resource accounting system, including system for fisheries. In Australia there is a growing sense that all our resource-based industries should be managed according to the principles of ecologically sustainable development, which require an increased level of knowledge of the resources and their environment. The Bureau of Resource Sciences is in a unique position to produce this volume as its mission is to support the sustainable development of Australia’s fishing, agricultural, mineral, petroleum and forestry industries by providing scientific and technical advice to government, industry and the community. |
