Abstract/Notes Indonesia as an archipelagic Island State, consisting of 17,058 islands, has vast marine water areas. Present commercial and subsitance fishing practices are very unevenly distributed. This is because of the historical demographic of the country’s population and consumption centers. Because of this, the cost of fishing and inter-island shipment of fish is high and becoming increasingly uneconomical.
