Abstract/Notes	Since the days of the Challenger expedition in the 1870s, oceanography has been traditionally conducted by sounding the oceans from a few moving ships. Accordingly, successive soundings are associated with changes in both the space dimension and the time dimension; however, the measured changes were nearly always attributed to the space dimension.
