Abstract/Notes | Research Institute for Mariculture (RIM) Gondol, Singaraja, Bali has been succeed on seeding of marine ornamental fishes, the one is blue surgeonfish, Paracanthurus hephatus. The problems, mass mortalities occurrence mainly on spawner caused by parasites infection. Clinical symptoms, the spawner seen swimming on the surface of tank, gasping like a lack of oxygen, many of mucus and within days the fishes will death. Based of this problem, a series experiment was conducted to examine the kinds of parasites and also how to controlling this infection. Against of the death and moribund spawners were examined microscopically by taking a sample of gills and mucus, especially the gills that look abnormal and mucus from body surface. Then both the samples were observed to know what kind of the parasite. Meanwhile, to overcome, the fishes with positive infection were treatment with anti-parasite copper sulfate (CuSO45H2O) with dosage 1.25 g/m3 and formalin (37%) with dosage 25 mL/m3 rearing waters by immersion for 8 hours. Results, from observation of the gills and mucus shown protozoan parasites Cryptocarion irritans and Scuticociliata in significant amounts over and damage the gill lamella. Usage of 1.25 g/m3 copper sulfate and 25 ml/m3 rearing water was effective to kill both of the parasites for 8 hours immersion time. And bacterium infection was found as a secondary infection.
