Abstract/Notes	As Carl Hubbs has aptly pointed out (see chapter 1), ichthyology has undergone torrential growth in the United States during the last half century, with the number of ichthyologists and their numerous approaches to studying fishes increasing exponentially. This evolutionary avalanche can be attributed to the cooccurrence of a wide range of prospective adaptive zones in the lacustrine environment, and the presence of a unique marphological key innovation of maximum versatility.
